Awesome, great thanks to the Port of Long Beach twitter.com/portoflongbeach and Formula D for making the event a reality. Hopefully they let us come back next year and just maybe I won’t even have to take a bus next time, hey, I can dream right?

Girlinyourshirt.com - Internet Promotion at it’s best

November 18th, 2008 by admin

An interesting marketing concept I came across today. This girl basically wants you to send your company logo shirt and $75 and she will take to promoting your company on viddler, youtube, twitter, etc… This is quite an interesting way to communicate your brand message in a unique and viral way. How can you go wrong for $75 as well?

Privacy on Flickr around the World

October 29th, 2008 by admin

This is a graph Elizabeth Churchill (Principal Research Scientist at Yahoo) presented today and was snapped on TechCrunch. Green icons are users that have their photos open and red represent people who have their accounts set to private. This cluster your looking at is a sample cluster of 1,000,000 unique users on Flickr from back in 2005 and their settings on photos. It appears the United States is extremely open with the exception of the Utah area and Hawaii. Europe and India are very private while South America is a very open place. An interesting way to look at the world and Internet privacy.

Twitrratr follows your company trends on twitter

October 22nd, 2008 by admin

A very cool web service with a horrible name is my quick review. The name Twitrratr that took me like six times just to get it right when typing it just now for this story. The site allows you to track the current “buzz” or trends about anything over three characters mentioned in Twitter. A very cool social media service that can help agencies and PR companies find out what the true buzz about a product in real time. No reason to wait to find out if your new product launch is going well when you can just twitrratr it. The program uses keywords that push things into one of three categories. Either positive (good marks), neutral (no emotional language), or negative (bad marks). It doesn’t seem to be fool proof but a pretty good gauge for success. We ran a trial with our client NOS Energy Drink and found 50% positive and 25% negative. If you actually read the negative listing however it isn’t something bad against the product. So as it seems to be a great feedback tool, make sure you read over some of th reviews before sending that report into the client.

SMX Day 1 - What’s new with Video Search Marketing?

October 7th, 2008 by admin

-Search Marketing for Newspapers and Magazines

Moderator:
Danny Sullivan: Search Engine Land (Editor-in-Chief)

Speakers:
Michael Benedek: AlmondNet (VP)
Gregory Markel: Infuse Creative (President)
Eric Papczun: Performics (Director of Natural Search Optimization)
Tom Wilde: EveryZing (CEO)

Video search marketing is a hot topic these days. Everyone is getting on the video Internet bandwagon or needs to be. I mean NBC even has videos on the Internet these days available for you to stream on a shared video site called Hulu. Your SMX packet has the Performics and EveryZing slides. Performics really caught my eye while talking about Google’s GAUDI (Google Audio Indexing) which right now is being used on youtube for politics. You can search Google Audio Indexing and find some videos they are working on in the political field. This seems great for NPR to post some boring videos that can be audio tagged but it seems as we are a long way from our “hip” videos with music and loud noise picking up words that Google’s Audio Indexing can pick up or understand. We learned about some great new marketing campaigns that plan to go public very soon at Youtube that function basically as a “Adwords” but for internal promotion to Youtube videos and channels that you can buy traffic for. Basically like a recommended videos for keywords and channels. I could keep going forever from this conference but I won’t because Tim Armstrong from Google is about to hop on the podium and speak but everyone in this section did a great job. The one negative I really saw out of this was everyone kept calling “Youtube” a wild west but refused to acknowledge worthy alternatives video sites or recommend people persue niche video websites for their market (such as the automotive network as www.streetfire.net which we love).

SMX Day 1- Social Networking for Newspapers & Magazines

October 6th, 2008 by admin

-Search Marketing for Newspapers and Magazines

Moderator:
Alex Bennert: Wall Street Journal (In House SEO)

Speakers:
Brent Csutoras: Brentcsutoras.com (Online Marketing Specialist)
Adam Sherk: New York Times (Search/PR Strategy)
Chris Winfield: 10e20 (President)

This was one of my favorite sections before walking into SMX that I thought I would get the most out of and I was right. While Chris from 10e20 stole the show and provided great information about social networking the other speakers brought out some key facts. My favorite thing from this session was that Chris Winfeld dubbed social media, “a giant conversation online.” This is so true and many people tend to forget that. His agency has a great blog that you will want to check out on for social topics http://www.10e20.com/blog/. Brent brought up some very fantastic items including his thoughts on the time/value benefit on different social sites around the Internet. This section didn’t come with any powerpoints in your book but Brent also a blog that he seems to be very active on at brentcsutoras.com. Overall an amazing session that I wish could of lasted longer, just seemed to short and we had to take in way to much valuable information in such a short time but such is life.
